How does the Audition & Casting Work? The first two days of the program all MBRT directors work with the students on different aspects of performance. Once the Musical Director teaches the students a song from the production, they each audition for the staff. The directors cast within appropriate age range and strive to place every student in a role that best suits their current skills while allowing them to grow and develop their craft on stage. You will find our audition process is very supportive and safe.
When will I know what role I got? We will post a cast list on the third day of rehearsal.
If I don't like my part, can I quit? Yes, but you will not be allowed to audition for the next show and your tuition fee will not be refunded. We strongly discourage performers from quitting if they don't get the role they like, because we believe that every role is important and the experience of being part of the production is more important than being the lead. Also, many times a role you didn't really want can surprise you and be more fun than you ever dreamed.
Refunds: A $35 fee will be assessed for any cancellations 2 weeks prior to the first day of the workshop. NO REFUNDS will be made for cancellations after the 2 week deadline.
What to bring: Our students work hard! So we recommend lots of water!
Appropriate Attire: Pants, shorts, and athletic or dance shoes are considered appropriate attire. Please NO sandals or other
open-toe shoes.
Closed Rehearsal: For the safety of all of our students and staff we hold closed rehearsal, friends and family members may not attend the rehearsals. However, parents may attend if you notify the directors ahead of time.
Rehearsals: Our 2008 Summer Youth Workshop rehearsals are Monday through Fridays from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Not all cast members will be scheduled to rehearse every day. A detailed schedule will be given to students and parents one week in advance. See our Summer Youth Calendar for a detailed schedule.
What if I can't make it to a rehearsal? When cast for a part, each performer makes a commitment to attend all rehearsals. If you are ill or will be late for a scheduled rehearsal, please call us at 831-207-4158, and leave a message. If you know of dates that you will not be available or certain day(s), please note it on your conflict calendar, which you will receive during the first day of our program. We do everything we can to work around conflicts and family vacations, all we ask is that you communicate with us.
Volunteering: Parents are not required to volunteer for participation with MBRT, we take care of it ALL! However, if you wish to volunteer for box office or work with students backstage, it is greatly appreciated. In return, while not comps, we will reserve a front row seat for you and a guest for a future performance. Please notify the Directors if you would like to volunteer on our production.
